The question isn’t whether media shapes children. It’s whether we shape that experience intentionally.

More Than Just Screen Time

In a culture where screen time is often isolating and passive, Like You Film Club transforms it into something mindful, connective, and lasting – turning stories into a catalyst for deeper family bonds and more intentional childhoods, where families grow together in emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-awareness.

Each film screening blends intentionally curated movies with tools to help kids and families go deeper, connecting film themes with their own experience. It goes beyond entertainment to to foster mindful reflection and personal growth. We provide resources like conversation guides and hands-on activities, which are thoughtfully designed by a team that includes educators, mental health professionals, and filmmakers.

Why?

Children increasingly engage with algorithm driven platforms that prioritize volume and engagement over mental well-being. This contributes to increasing levels of stress and anxiety among young people. Recent research by Sesame Workshop and Nickelodeon have found the following:
0 %
parents who are at least slightly concerned about kids’ mental health
0 %
Gen-Z/Millennial parents who wish they had been taught more about how to understand and manage emotions as a child
0 %
parents who believe media can help teach children how to understand and manage their emotions
The same studies also found that media is an effective means for emotional literacy and regulation, and for instilling positive character strengths and life skills.

kids’ top strategies for dealing with stress:

1. Talking to or snuggling with a parent

2. watching a favorite tv show or movie

Our programs combine these top strategies, providing an intentional intergenerational setting that uses high quality storytelling to build emotional literacy and strengthen family and community bonds in a shared theater setting.
